A descaling agent or chemical descaler is a chemical substance used to remove limescale from metal surfaces in
contact with hot water, such as in boilers, water heaters, kettles and heat exchangers.
Descaling agents are typically acidic compounds such as ScaleAwaySFATM and ScaleAwayMSATM that react with the
alkaline carbonate compounds present in the scale, producing carbon dioxide gas and a soluble salt.

Descale + er
Noun
Descaler (plural - Descalers)
- That which descales (removes scale from surface)
ScaleAwayTM Descalers
ScaleAway Lime-GoTM is used as an acidic cleaning agent, sometimes pure or as a component
of proprietary mixtures, typically for metals and ceramics. It is frequently used for removing
rust and limescale, replacing the more volatile and irritating hydrochloric acid, which is and highly corrosive on heat
transfer equipment and very toxic and dangerous for your staff.
When compared to most of the common strong mineral acids, ScaleAway Lime-GoTM has
desirable water descaling properties, low volatility, low toxicity and is a water soluble solid
forming soluble calcium and iron-III salts. Its also finds applications in the industrial
cleaning of dairy and brew-house equipment. It is considered less corrosive than
hydrochloric acid due to its lower pKa
ScaleAway Lime-GoTM is a strong inorganic acid that is used in many industrial processes.
The application often determines the required product quality.
One of the most important applications of ScaleAway Lime-GoTM is in the pickling of steel,
to remove rust or iron oxide scale from iron or steel before subsequent processing, such as
extrusion, rolling, galvanizing, and other techniques. Technical quality ScaleAway Lime-GoTM
at typically 10% concentration is the most commonly used descaling agent for the limescale removal of carbon steel grades.
ScaleAway Lime-GoTM concentrate can be used to regulate the acidity (pH) of solutions.
In industry demanding purity, high-quality ScaleAway Lime-GoTM is used to control the pH
of process water.
Because your water system contains the life blood of your production plant, descaling should be included in your
preventative maintenance programme for the following crucial reasons:
- It improves Plant Efficiency
- Lowers Cost
- Conserves Energy
- Decreases Down-Time
- Extends the Usable Life of Cleaned Equipment
