SAND FILTERS
Sand filters produce high-quality water without the use of chemical aids. Passing flocculated water through a rapid gravity sand filter strains out the floc and the particles trapped within it, reducing the number of bacteria and removing most of the solids.

Sand filtration is used for the removal of suspended matter, as well as floating and sinkable particles. The water flows vertically through a fine bed of sand and/or gravel. Particles are removed by way of absorption or physical encapsulation.

CARBON FILTERS
Activated carbon is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon molecules. The treated or activated carbon has a massive surface area, making it highly effective at absorbing tastes and odour, as well as chlorine and organics from the water.

Carbon filters work so well because of their large surface area. This allows carbon to physically absorb a large amount of chemicals and substances that pose serious dangers to the normal domestic water supply. Many of these substances can cause cancer, neurological problems and other health risks if ingested in large quantities.
